Am abroad. Don't want to get voice mails as would be charged. How do you switch voicemails off?

dial 1760 to turn it off 1750 to turn it back on assuming you do not have tugo installed

Normally you would dial 1760 or if on contract you can download TU and switch off in-app. You really should have done it before you left the UK but Live Chat can help.
