i bought a a8 tablet from o2 store with insurance and am told i need to go to a samsung store

It's up to the insurance company where it is repaired.

Samsung, though, would be the better option if you have a choice

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.
