Vertical Coloured Lines on my HTC M8

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi all

as suggested by the title, I am having some issues with my HTC M8.

The other day, I switched off my phone to go into a meeting (for security reasons) and at the end of the meeting, I switched it back on to be presented with a screen of coloured vertical lines. The phone itself is still working, accepting calls, texts and responding to touch.

Unfortunately I can't see anything beyond the lines, but when I swipe the screen, the colours change to indicate I am on another page.

I have tried to do a hard reset but I must have the fastboot enabled as even with a good bit of guesswork, I can't get it reset.

Just wondered whether anyone has had this issue and if so, how have you resolved it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the replies everyone...sounds like its goosed.

I have booked it in to o2 for a check/repair under warranty, handset is 9 months old.

Would it be better to return to HTC?

This sounds like a screen fault which needs a full repair. How long have you had the handset?

If less than 14 days then return it under the o2 contract terms and get it swapped.
If over 14 days but still in warranty then we recommend you return it to the manufacturer for repair as they know their handsets best. We don't recommend o2 repairs generally.

We would recommend you take pictures of your phone before you send it, wrap it well such as in bubble wrap or similar. It does mean you may be without a handset for a couple of weeks. Do you have a spare you can use in the meantime?

Gpu/ connection failure, either software or hardware. The fix is either a factory reset (software) or a handset fix/ replacement by HTC or o2.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I have dropped it previously, but no, not recently. It does have a robust cover on it. I asked in the shop..had to get a sim cradle for spare phone, and the guy in the shop said he had only ever seen it on a phone that has had pressure applied, but that isn't consistent with the phone that day either.

Are they symptoms normally the result of a dropped phone?

Yes it would be better to return it to the manufacturer. O2 repairs sadly don't have a great reputation.

But of course the choice is yours.
