Sony Xperia E4G trouble charging

I have an E4G which has been superb but lately has had trouble charging.

 

The device says it is charging when I plug it in, but it clearly isn't. I think I'm on borrowed time until it goes dead altogether.

This was a device I bought from O2 which I have now fully paid off. I remain on a monthly tariff contract however. Where do I stand in respect of repairs/replacement? Will O2 cover this?  I had heard that Sony's guarantees were longer than some other brands..

 

Any advice would be appreciated.

Warranty is 2 years but if it's older than that you'll need to pay for repairs.
We usually recommend Sony over O2 but you might get a better deal at a local repair shop or market stall.

O2 won’t cover it. They’ll charge you a fee & knowing their repairers it’ll be very expensive

Might be worth cleaning the phone's charger port with something like a cocktail stick first, crud in the port can cause problems charging.

Thanks Sammy_boy - to the naked eye it looks clean but I found myself a cocktail stick and scraped out a bit of muck so hopefully that will do the trick
