Data Usage

Anonymous
Not applicable
Since last week's OS upgrade I appear to have used all of my 2gb data in a couple of days... that's impossible when I am on wifi both at work (where my phone is idle) & at home where it gets used for the odd WhatsApp message or a scroll through Facebook at the most! Also, until I actually put a limit on the data to stop it until my next top-up (March!), my battery life was down to about 4 hours, again even when idle! What has this stupid update done to my phone that has the potential to cost me lots of cash in extra charges etc. & how do I stop it? x

Check in data settings what is using the data. Switch off autorun on facebook videos. Consider a factory reset to get rid of old files after backing up.

It may be worth having a word with customer service as many have been unknowingly put onto a shared data allowance which hasn't reset on the anniversary day.

Perhaps @Anonymous can comment as to whether this is still a problem.

there are still some minor issues but most of them have been sorted. How are you checking your data allowance? Did you get the sms warning u that u were almost out of data and the one that tells u that u have runned out?

Definitely call 202 as something is wrong. It certainly sounds as though data hasn't reset.

Then your data reseted as normal, it will be like @jonsie said, one or several  of your apps eating away your data.

Two things are advised, making sure your app are set to update over wifi only settings>cellular and scroll to the bottom and make sure they are set to "restrict to wifi"

Settings >general>background refresh will show you what apps are running in the background and close them.you will also be able to choose an option to stop them from running in the background.

Hope this helps! slight_smile

Edit: If you check your data usage on my O2,my guess would be that you will find single massive transfers of data because you have apps that are not updating over wifi, my guess

I've just checked & it would appear that Snapchat has used 1.65gb between the update & the limit being applied 2 days later despite being logged out of the account at the time! This has now been uninstalled so fingers crossed it doesn't happen again in March x

That's a crazy amount for an app. Let's hope you have sorted the problem now.

I really do hope so but I still think it's something that stupid update triggered as everything was perfect before then. So, not only has it ruined the entire look of my phone with its random colour scheme, it's also sent my data usage off the scale 😟 x
