I've noticed recently that some of my calls/messages look like I've sent them from a different country, because they've been automatically prefixed with an area code. Even if I'm in the same locality, so there's no need for any different country code prefix, it still has put one on. To the recipient it looks like I'm located in a different country because it's put their area code on as a prefix before their number. Why is the phone making me look like I'm making calls/messages from another country? p.s. there's no choice of country option on the software, just language.

Check your country is set to UK in your phone's settings.

Don't really understand the question as mobile numbers don't have area codes.
Either way, if you suspect an account issue, you need to ask O2.

Thank you for your replies. There's no setting/option to change the country setting. I've seen that setting previously on another phone, so understand that would be the usual thing to try. The information received so far from 02 is that area codes are still a necessity if a person is wanting to contact someone in another country. The usual method is [country code] then the person you're wanting to contact's mobile number minus the first zero.

That's not an area code though @Bagpuss
Can you give an example of what numbers are being displayed, without giving the full number please.
