Calls from Leeds 0113 saying they are O2. Is this legit?

I had a call from 01138684226 today. My phone told me it was suspected scam/phishing, which is interesting.

They left an answermachine message, "Hi this is Ellie from O2 calling ***** ***** (my true name) to talk about your complaint....."

Legit?

I do have a complaint with O2, but the phone (Pixel 8 on O2) flagged it as spam/bad.

Question: do the O2 complaints team ring from a landline in Leeds?

@WillH

Just be aware that numbers are easily spoofed these days.

Return the call via 202 and ask to be transferred.

Yes it pays to be wary, just don't give any sensitive information esp passwords or bank account details

Ask them to confirm the complaint details

When you @WillH lodged your complaint, you would have received an automated e-mail of acknowledgement ; those e-mails usually stipulate the number from which O2 will contact you.

It might be worth you digging out the acknowledgement to check exactly what it says. 👍

Pointless if the number has been spoofed.

We all know the number displayed is one used by O2 already.

o2 have a campus in Leeds next to the White Rose Centre, so is possible,  but they normally call from an o2 CS number, or a Reading Number if you get to the Exec Team..

But if in doubt then contact o2 and ask them if someone has tried to call you.. There will be notes on the account..

So they rang again today, same land line number. Same alert on my mobile saying it was spam.

I answered and a man with a foreign voice told me he was following up on my O2 complaint (I have one running)

He then tried to take me through security with the critical questions, and I stopped him.

I highlighted that it was O2 calling me, in which case they should very well know who I am.

He didn't get upset, suggested we do things by email, I agreed and he rang off.

The world we live in is bizarre, complicated and ridiculous.

They haven't emailed me.

I have just checked (today) that number and it appears to be a scam.

https://who-called.co.uk/Number/01138684226

You could call o2 yourself and ask if they have any knowledge of the complaints dept calling you. it 'should' be on your records.
