Last week I was in Guernsey, my phone was set to travel on but I got no data?
is that normal?

Guernsey is in O2's Europe Zone.
Are you sure your phone's "Roaming Data" switch was set to "Enabled"? That caught us out in one of the phones in the group in Spain recently, with no 4G showing until it was enabled.
Sometimes a manual search, or switching from 5G, if you have it, to 3G or 4G helps, as does rebooting your phone. Also worth checking with O2 that you don't have a Roaming Data Cap or Bar in effect, this can be checked by the O2 Social Media Team, links below this post (or call 4445 after 8am).
