hi,

I've only had the phone for 4 months but recently when making a call the screen goes black. it doesn't change if i swipe it but the call is still ongoing. If i try to switch it off, the screen lights up for a split second then goes black again. It takes a few attempts at switching on and off before the screen becomes live but worryingly, until then, i cannot end the call! can anyone help

Hi and welcome.

Their are soft resets and hard resets you can perform on your phone which typically help.

beware hard resets del;ete saved data so make a back up first before trying.

You may want to approach Nokia or 02 repairs at your local shop.

I would go with Nokia first under its limited 2 year warranty.

Soft Reset.

If your phone is unresponsive then try this: Press and hold both the Volume down and the Power keys for 15 seconds

Hard Reset.

Method #1

  1. On your start screen, tap the arrow icon.
  2. Go to “Settings”.
  3. Select “About Phone”.
  4. Choose “Reset your Phone”.
  5. Confirm by tapping “Yes”.

The reset process will now begin, please do not touch or press anything until it is complete.

Method #2

  1. Turn your device OFF.
  2. Simultaneously press and hold the volume down + power + camera buttons.
  3. Release the power button only – once the phone vibrates.
  4. Hold for five more seconds, then release.

I think some sort of sensor is meant to realise that you've moved the phone away from your ear and light the keypad. Every so often the one on my HTC One X gets confused too. Soft reset (as outlined by BoB) is probably your best option to start.
