If honest I can't understand why, in this day and age, anyone needs to make an announcement of this nature.

Its hardly the 40's and 50's when people in this country were chemically castrated for 'coming out'

I was about to post the exact same thing! I don't know why "famous" people feel the need to announce their sexuality unless there is some other motive.
