Yes, sad. A forerunner to Facebook, that just got swallowed up. There's a similar site in the US called Classmates.com which is still going, but I'm sure is struggling and will go the same way as Friends Reunited.

I subscribed to that in it's early days but then it became far easier to track people down (if I wanted to) via FB. Not used it for years...

It was entertaining at the time though the reality was that it was a moment in time that didn't exist before on the web. Basically it was the novelty factor of nostalgia but like all nostalgia, its not worth revisiting too often and enjoyed at the right time. One site for the internet archives that will be mistakenly have its demise put down to Facebook (which is more about relationship mining but thats another path of the internet evolution).

Our last school re-union was organised through Friends Reunited ... lots of photos of us on there & of classes past ... out of 120+ in 1st form, & after several re-unions, last one when we were 50/51 ish, there were only 30 or so of us turned up ... can't honestly think we will meet up again ... but have found more school friends on Facebook & I enjoy keeping in touch with 'our year' there Bouncy

We did a similar thing with Nurses Re-United. Not a website then......but via a group of us who thought it would be a good idea to reunite nurses who had trained within a 6 year framework of time. I loved it.

Always known as a 'rebel' ....always being called up to Matrons office ...and the one who was at the forefront of trouble in the school of nursing.....oh and certainly the one who was told off for the shortness of her uniform and her dyed blonde hair...Happy Dance

To walk into that venue of nurses,(including Matron and Deputy matrons)... knowing this rebel was now a Ward Sister and watching the disbelief on their faces......gave me a great deal of satisfaction...LOL

In fairness Jane...these authority figures never seemed so frightening when we met up years later...They were usually retired whilst our crowd were on the way up in the profession. I often wondered why they scared the living daylights out of me back in the day....Bouncy
