How does making things more complicated "make logging in easier"?

I signed up for o2 as "franlxxx" - all very well.  Last time I came on, I was informed that my o2 ID would in future include my Yahoo email addres "to make it easier for me to sign in".

How does making my login twice as long make it easier for me?  and why should I have to login to o2 with a Yahoo email address?  one would expect it to be my o2 email, if anything.

I got an email via Yahoo, informing me that I had "chosen to change my ID" - I didn't "choose", I was mugged.  I've tried to change it back, but the only option I get is to change my password.

So what's the reason for "making it easier" by making it twice as hard?

I don't use o2 as my default email because I'm severely visually impaired and there's no way to enlarge the text on emails i write in o2 - I can use Rich Text in Yahoo, but when I try it in o2 I just get half a page of totally confusing toobars, none of which actually do anything - I took a screenshot, don't know if I can upload it.  I'd use o2 a lot more if I could access it, AND if I didn't have to remeber which email address I've got to use to get in.

I was very surprised to get a working Rich Text option in here; I certainly don't get one when I try to write an email

Does anyone have any similar experiences and if so, did they get round them?

O2 don't need you to log in with anything other than your O2 email address and password.

The message you saw at the O2 log in, said your log in name in future would be your full O2 email address.

I tried that - no go.

I can't log in as just Franlxxx

I can't log in with my @o2 email address

it will ONLY accept my "name" being my Yahoo email address

I had the same problem.

When asked for my forum username, Forum Admin thought my email address was "O2MACH2 at O2 dot co dot uk" but it's not it's my real name at a gmail address.

I agree with you, they made the forum registration and log in far too complex.

Found the email o2 sent me via my Yahoo account  [I've taken out the full email addressthey quote!]

"You recently asked us to change your O2 Username.

To change the username to lxxx@yahoo.com please click on this link below to confirm this email and finish changing your username."

I didn't have any choice; they wouldn't accept me NOT clicking on the **bleep** link.  And I can't change it back.  When I log in to o2 the account is shown as being "franlxx" @o2  but that's not the name I have to use to get into it!

why the flip would I ASK them to include my Yahoo email address as my o2 ID??

what's most annoying is being told that I "asked" for this to be done.  I was perfectly happy being franlxxx, it was a unique identity (with the numbers that I've x'd out!) so if it ain't broke, why fix it?

lol Thanks for using large text in your reply, I'm visually impaired and the previous answer needed me to zoom up to 250% to be able to read it.

I don't have any complaints about o2 other than this, and not being able to use Rich Text in o2 emails.

When I was looking around for an ISP, I went on a comparison site; o2 had only two reviews, but they were 100% across the board - others had more reviews, but some were more red than green.  I chose o2 because of the 100% reviews, and especially because all their help-centres are in this country, and free (I object to being forced to help a company exploit low-paid workers in poor countries - in fact, I told o2 that if they moved their help centres abroad I'd take that as a breach of contract on their part!).

After a couple of months, they contacted me to say that they'd re-checked, and my exchange wasn't giving me the service they thought, so did I want to drop my package down to a lower, cheaper one?  I'd never heard of any company offering to give up money before!

If only they'd make it easier for me to use their email service - starting with logging in!

And still it goes on ...

I got an email from o2 via Yahoo that I'd received a PM, click here to sign in and read it.  So I signed in.  and again.  and again.  Tried six times and it wouldn't let me in.  Tried "@yahoo", no go; tried "franxxx", no go. Even tried "@o2etc" - not go.

So I tried the "forgot login" to find out if I was still "@yaoo" - put in my mobile number, it refused to recognise me.  Tried "forgot both", it said it sent me an email.  I waited.  and waited.  That was just over an hour ago and I'm still waiting.

Tried Live Chat.  Got on to someone eventually; he reset my password and sent me a text of the new one - as I'm visually impaired, not easy to read string of random numbers/letters.  failed first time.  tried again, told me password had expired.  he sent me another, finally got in.

It took me about 80 minutes to get in to my email account - and then I still had to sign in again to get to the forum.  And then try to find where I could read the d*mn PM (i got *bleeped* in a previous post for spelling that word in full!).

So that's about an hour and a half spent just trying to read a PM.  good use of time, I don't think!
