I'm getting an iPhone for Christmas Day (I hope) and I know I have to activate my microsim...I don't want to activate it now and be out of a phone until I receive the phone... or should I just activate it while I can?

No because the iPhone is not a new contract...I bought the iPhone contractless directly from Apple and then picked up a Microsim from the 02 store so I'm need to activate my microsim with my existing 02 number

That is ok just use the swapmysim in my links if the new o2 sim is the type that fits both activate sim now using the form, punch out the normal size from the carrier then when you get the iphone 4 punch out the microsim portion.
That was the advice to others getting an iphone 4 before they came out.

Absolutely. Pop your micro-SIM into your iP4 on Christmas Day. On the above link, enter your current O2 mobile number, then the 19 digit number of your new micro-SIM. This number is on the card or letter the card is attached to. It will say that on busy times it can take up to 24hrs to transfer the SIM, but in reality, it may only be a couple of minutes.
Do a normal restart of your iPhone after your SIM comes live, just to be sure.
Enjoy your phone....and Christmas! grin

P.S. I assume you already have an iPhone contract?

Personally I would call o2 on Christmas day to get your sim activated. It'll happen in about 15 mins. If you use the swapmysim link there is a good chance it will take several hours...I wouldn't want to take that chance because I'd want to use my phone asap slight_smile

.....but then again, think of all those people(probably most of them children) with new shiny phones and all ringing customer service on Christmas day! Been on the receiving end of that myself grin

I did it the other day in about 60 seconds or less. Why would I want to ring up O2???? Shudder/shiver at the thought.
