Poor / Intermittent Signal

Anonymous
Not applicable
According to o2, I should receive (and I quote) " GOOD INDOOR AND OUTDOOR 2G COVERAGE at my home post code).

Is it reasonable then to assume I should be able to call and text? I don't expect to be able to use Internet cos 2g is crap.

If it is reasonable then I intend to take o2 to the Advertising Standards Authority as you cannot get signal indoors at my home address and no matter how muchi complain all I get is that service is working fine and I have a perfect 2g signal.

On the subject of signal, o2 has gone downhill over the last 3 years. Signal is dreadful across the country. i travel a fair bit and am amazed at how poor it is and how much of the country is not covered at all.
4g? About time you got 3g sorted.

3G will be improved by default with the 4G roll out.
Signal checkers are only a guide and should not be relied upon to be completely accurate. Our advice on here is always to check actual signal with different PAYG SIM's before committing to any contract.

Thank you for your message.

However there is NO 3g in this area. It is 2g only.

O2's response? Refuse to sort out the signal and you can leave if you don't like it. O2 used to be great on Customer Service, now as bad if not worse than Vodafone (and that is saying something)

There are still many areas with only 2G coverage but all are planned for improvement with the legal obligation O2 have with their 4G license.

You didn't think they would say, yes don't worry we'll send a couple of lads around and put you up a new aerial near your house?

The ASA are unlikely to take any interest I'm afraid and you will never be able to demand a perfect signal, it's radio not magic and signals will be variable for the foreseeable future.

You can read their plans for the next couple of years and you may be lucky and have your area updated sooner than others:

Thanks for your message.

My understanding is that 4g is only for Internet access. Won't help me with using my phone to call people or text people.

It really is quite poor and o2's support dreadful. They should be sorting the signal out especially if Vodafone can provide a full phone and text signal from the same base station.

Very very disappointed with o2.

Don't like the fact they have been told there is no indoor signal but they keep advertising there is on the website. So others might sign up who will just go on to complain. There are only 14 homes on this post code although there are hundreds of homes using the base station.

The update to 4G will bring updates to 2G and 3G also.

4G will be for calls later on.

Yes currently 4G is data only (however that may change if O2 introduce VOLTE), but by implementing 4G they have said that there will be a comparable 3G signal running in parallel, so if you get 4G in your area you will also have the equivalent strength 3G signal.

Thank you for your message.

The base station is just 620 metres from my house. I don't want a new one, just for this one to work. I don't think that is unreasonable.

And to answer your comment about sending a couple of lads round, where I used to live several years ago when I was last on o2 there was a signal issue and they did send engineers out who met me at home, ran some tests, and then came back to me to Thank me add their base station cell was not pointing correctly and they had to reset it. Their systems were showing the cell working correctly. They were very grateful for me telling them and they got it sorted.

so given I am just 620 metres from the base station with no obstructions the yes i do expect o2 to send a couple of lads round.

A bit less sarcasm would be appreciated.

Thank you

You'll just have to wait until they get to your area, there are thousands of people iin the same position as you.

My nearest mast is about a mile away or more, I would suggest they attend to my signal before doing yours.
